Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

 

 

2022-2023 Arrival and Dismissal Procedures 

Playground gates will open at 8:20. Please note, any gathering on the playground before school hours is done so without the supervision of school personnel.  All students should be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.  

Arrival

  • Line-up begins at 8:35

  • Pick-up by teachers begins  at 8:40

Each grade level has an assigned arrival location.  Classroom teachers will pick up their classes from these assigned locations each morning, throughout the school year.  School aides will come out to the playground, prior classroom teacher, at 8:35, to assist students in lining up.

  • All students will meet their classroom teachers at an assigned location. 

  • Any students who arrives late to school, whose teacher has already entered the building, should enter through the main entrance.

  • All bikes, scooters, etc. must be walked once on school property.  These items may not be ridden on the playground or sidewalk during arrival and dismissal. 

Kindergarten Arrival

We recognize the importance of supporting our youngest and newest Murray students. Specific entrances will be exclusively used for Kindergarten students .  All kindergarten classes will gather on the grassy area at the front of the school.  

  • Door #3 (left-side of the Murray Steps) - Ms. Opas and Ms. Geertgens 

  • Door #2 (right of the Main Entrance) -  Ms. Bruno, Ms. Finn and Ms. McShea

  • Door #11 (Daymon Terrace) - Ms. Hickey 

  • September 6th-9th  – Kindergarten teachers will meet all students on the front lawn at 8:40 and proceed into the building together. 

  • September 12 – End of Year – All kindergarten students will walk into the building on their own and wait outside their classroom.  The doors will open at 8:35. Kindergarten aides will be stationed at each of the doors to support the transition. 

  • Please note, if you plan on walking your K student up to the door, you must have legal parking.  Double parking is forbidden and extremely disruptive.  

  • Please contact your students' teacher if you feel that your student is having difficulty separating.

Grades 1-5

Students in grades 1-5 will line up at their designated arrival locations, specified below.  Aides will support students in lining up, beginning at 8:35.  Teachers will arrive outside to pick up their students at 8:40. Please make sure your student is on time in order to meet their teacher at their spot and proceed to their classrooms together.

Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade Arrival - Large Playground 

Dismissal - 3:00pm

  • All families will receive the Dismissal Permission Slip via ParentSquare. Please fill out the electronic version no later than Sunday, September 11th.  This sheet will communicate to us how your student will be picked up at the end of each day. 

  • Teachers will dismiss students to the predetermined locations around school property, detailed above.  This will be a teacher’s dismissal spot for the remainder of the year. Note, the dismissal locations for all classrooms are the same as their arrival locations. 

  • Students will either be released to an adult or caregiver, as indicated on the dismissal permission slip, released to Boys and Girls Club, or released to walk home (grs. 3-5 only).

  • Only students who are dismissed to walk home (grades 3-5) will be dismissed without a parent or caregiver. 

  • If you would like one of your students to meet you at a location that is different than their assigned dismissal location i.e. the corner of Murray and Colonial, you must list them as a “walker”.  They can then meet you at a location of your choosing. 

  • If you have arranged an after-school playdate, you must go to each student’s pick-up location.  In addition, please make sure you have provided written notice to the classroom teacher(s).

  • Communicate any changes to daily pick-up routines in writing (email) to the classroom teacher, and CC the main office (svalenti@mamkschools.org and acharles@mamkschools.org

Inclement Weather

In the event of severe inclement weather (i.e.: snow storm, ice storm, torrential rain, thunder and lightning), in which queuing outside becomes potentially dangerous, our contingency plans are:

ARRIVAL PROCEDURES

  • Begin inviting students into the building at 8:30. 

  • Kindergarten students will report to their classrooms, supervised by K aides. 

  • Students in grades 1- 3 will proceed to the hallway space by their classroom and wait for 8:40 by sitting in their cubby spaces. 

  • Students in grades 4 and 5 will report to the auditorium.

  • At 8:40, students will proceed to their classrooms. 

DISMISSAL PROCEDURES

  • Students will be dismissed from the assigned doors, as detailed below.  Photos of each door have been included as well. For the most part, this is the same door that they entered the building during arrival, except for Ms. Baize, Ms. Dizenzo, Ms. Fortunato and Ms. Vieira, who have been assigned different locations that the ones they entered through.
