Welcome Back to School!
KINDERGARTEN MEET AND GREET & SCHOOL-WIDE LEMONADE SOCIAL
Please join kindergarten and new families on August 30 from 1-2p on the Murray Avenue kindergarten playground. This will be an informal meet and greet for parents/caregivers and kids, so we can have more familiar faces on the first day of school. After the playdate, please feel free to also stop by Principal Hazut’s Lemonade Social in the Murray Meadow from 2-4p! Come sip lemonade and meet new and old friends! The Meadow is located near Daymon Terrace and the 1st/2nd grade playground.
KINDERGARTEN/NEW FAMILY COFFEE
The Murray Avenue PTA welcomes you to a New Family Orientation & Coffee in the school library on Wed 9/5 at 9:00. Enjoy a cup of coffee while learning about general school guidelines, such as arrival/dismissal procedures, etc and find out about the great work the PTA does for the school. You’ll have a chance to ask questions and meet a bunch of new parents, too.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES ARE READY FOR PICKUP
If you ordered school supplies last spring, they are available for pick-up through the first week of school at Larchmont Mini Mart, 14 Chatsworth Avenue. Hours: 7a-8:30p (Mon-Sat); 8a-7p (Sun). If you didn’t pre-order school supplies, Futterman’s (2096 Boston Post Rd), will have grade-specific lists and all of the supplies needed. Supply lists are also posted on the PTA web site. Questions? Contact Futterman’s (914-834-1173) or PTA volunteer, Kristin DeFelice.
WHO IS MY CHILD’S TEACHER?
The week before school starts, parents will be notified via an email from “One Call Now” that class placement information is available on the Mamaroneck School District's Parent Portal. Please review and confirm your credentials in advance of the last week of August to ensure that you can access this PARENT PORTAL. For help, click on the FAQ button on the parent portal login page. NEW THIS YEAR: Class placement letters will not be mailed, so please take time now to make sure you can log in to the portal.
While you are in the portal, it is an excellent time to update and review all of your emergency contact information and your contact/household information. This information must be updated separately from the A to Z Directory hosted by the PTA.
CLASS LISTS AND DIRECTORY
The A to Z Directory is a website and app that is managed by PTA volunteers. It provides parents with class lists and contact information for parents and students at our school.
The Directory is also the source for email addresses for all PTA correspondence, including Tiger Talk. To get log-in credentials to the Directory, please email the following information to email@example.com:
- Student's Name, grade and any siblings at Murray
- Parents' Name(s), phone numbers and email addresses
- Household Address(es)
Please also confirm that you would like your information to be made public in the directory (which is only available to Murray families). Questions? Contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
PTA VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED
If you are looking for a way to get involved in our PTA, there are plenty of opportunities. We are still looking to fill the following positions:
- Murray Memories (1 or 2 co-chairs)
- Spring Fair (3 co-chairs)
- Science Fair (1 or 2 co-chairs)
- Kindergarten Grade Level Coordinators ( 2 co-chairs)
- Lost & Found (1 chair)
- Garden (1 co-chair)
STAY INFORMED AND GET INVOLVED
Every Sunday evening during the school year, parents will get an email from the PTA titled “Tiger Talk.” Please make sure at least one person in your household is reading this very important communication. This weekly email communicates what is happening at Murray each week and how to include your child in the many events and activities offered at Murray. If you have already verified/registered for the A to Z directory, you will automatically receive Tiger Talk and PTA emails based on the email addresses we have on file. If you are not receiving this communication, please contact Susie Wong at email@example.com.
DAYMON TERRACE: TRAFFIC GUIDELINES AND NEW HOURS FOR DROP OFF
Please go over the school's drop off and pick procedures for students who are driven to school, and make sure all drivers in your family, including babysitters, are familiar with them. Developed in cooperation with school administration and town police, these guidelines keep traffic flowing and, most importantly, keep our kids safe.
The Daymon Terrace Drop-Off Zone is staffed by parent volunteers from 8:20-8:45a. After 8:45a the school doors on Daymon Terrace will be locked. Any child arriving after that time must be driven around to the front and enter school through the main entrance.
Children need to be independent enough to leave their car with minimal assistance and get to their drop-off spots by themselves in order to use the Daymon Terrace Drop-Off. Children in car seats must be able to unbuckle themselves on their own. Once your child has exited the car, you must proceed to pull away from the curb as described above. If you want to watch your child walk into the school, you must continue past the Drop-Off Zone and find legal parking. Kindergartners, in general, are not ready for this until later in the year.
