Diversity & Belonging Committee
Who are we?
The Murray Diversity and Belonging Committee was established to support the Mamaroneck District Equity Team’s mission :
To identify, acknowledge, and dismantle the systemic barriers that prevent equity and access for all students by creating and implementing a sustainable plan for equitable opportunities and outcomes for all.
The Committee is run by parents, supported by the Principals and PTA and is responsible for the following initiatives:
Building Bridges - Understanding People Living with Different Disabilities:
This District and PTA sponsored initiative is in its 14th consecutive year at Murray. The goals of Building Bridges are to increase students’ awareness and understanding of people living with different disabilities; to provide experiences that develop respect, empathy, and compassion; and to reinforce the belief that all people, whether their differences are visible or invisible, are more alike than different on the inside. International Committee
The Murray International Committee revels in the richness of our global community by hosting exciting events like International Week (June), social gatherings, the Spring Fair food stand, and our annual fundraiser, 80 Bites Around the World. This fundraiser, held in June, invites you to embark on a journey through global cuisine, creating connections with diverse cultures right here in your neighborhood. Calendar/Catalog:
Each month the team updates and shares via Tiger Talk the Diversity & Belonging Calendar which has a comprehensive list of books, movies, and other activities families can read and watch at home to celebrate or take part in the monthly event(s). The catalog is built with the support of the school Principals. Catalog Link
In-Class Read-Aloud or Activity
Families are invited to partner with their child’s teacher and participate in a class activity for a particular DBC event. For example, during the Lunar New Year parent volunteers decorated the lunch room and hallway. And parents were encouraged to contact their individual classroom teacher to lead a read aloud, a Lunar New Year craft project, or activity.
